Music Class Learning through the arts is important to the students overall development including motor skills, language development, self-confidence, visual learning, inventiveness, cultural awareness and improved academic performance. K-5th graders * Lean basic rhythm and melodic notation * Learn about composers and their music * Learn about different genres of music * Learn how to play a variety of percussion instruments * Learn basic music theory and learn how to play the piano * Learn basic singing techniques through Solfège syllables and 2-part singing 6th, 7th and 8th graders * Review of basic rhythm and melodic notation * Learn about composers and their music * Learn about different genres of music * Review of basic music theory * Learn basic singing techniques through Solfège syllables and 2 -3 part singing. Jr. High Drama class Students develop self- confidence, characterization, creativity, concentration, following directions, group dynamics, plot structure and ensemble acting through improvisation, skits, Shakespeare monologues and the 8th grade musical. School Choir Students in 4th – 8th grade, receive training in basic music theory and choral performance. By developing musical skills and performing in public, the students acquire poise, increased self-esteem and an understanding that discipline and hard work bring rewards. "He who sings prays twice!"
